The 8th day of our trip is also our first day in the West. The curiosity was great, all stories raved about the landscape in the west, which we knew so far only from photos.
Our first day trip led us over the 54 to the peninsula Snæfellsnes.
There were only four fixed destinations on the plan today, but beforehand, we often stopped at the roadside.

Since the 54 winds along the coast, we could admire the landscape in the sunshine.
Various mountain formations and types presented themselves against a blue sky, decorated with a few clouds.

In addition, great coastal stretches to the right, and the waters around it, in which the surrounding landscape compositions were reflected.
Our first stop was at Selvallafoss, picturesquely situated on a lake, surrounded with several volcanic craters.
The peculiarity of this waterfall makes it comparable to Seljalandsfoss in the south. Both have a walkable open space behind it - though at Selvallafoss inhabited by sheep.
We took plenty of time to photograph, and just as we were returning to the car, the first tour bus arrived - lucky us.
We followed the coastline further to the village of Grundarfjörður, from there it was only a few hundred meters to the most famous photo motif on the peninsula.
The Kirkjufells and Kirkjufellsfoss - hot as a photo motif in combination, and at any time of the year, whether during the day or at night.
If you are in the area, you simply have to stop.
To fortify ourselves after so many other tourists, we drove back to Grundarfjörður for lunch. There was delicious pizza and with a few Germans at the next table, we could exchange about their Iceland tour.
Originally, the complete circumnavigation of the peninsula was also on the agenda for the day trip.
Since we could estimate the distance or the time needed only with difficulty, we followed the 54 to the southern side of the peninsul, after a stop at a beach before Ólafsvík.
The view of the coastline, at the top of the pass, was simply breathtaking.
The two cyclists who struggled up the passage definitely had our respect!
We left the high pass behind us and rolled comfortably into the valley, where the next highlight was already waiting for us - Bjarnafoss.
With its drop height of 80m, over two steps, it is not one of the smaller waterfalls. Since we made a little further down rest, was even for the drone some at height meters to make, in order to be able to throw once a view over the edge.
In addition, we were entertained by the pirouettes of an "Influencer", which she performed with her smartphone on the small wooden bridge.
From there, we headed expectantly to Ytri Tunga Beach.
A beach section, which is known for the fact that mainly in the summer months seals settle down for a sunbath.

After the first few hundred meters of seal-free beach, we had almost given up our hope. Only when we had climbed over some rocks, we saw the first seals. As ordered for the photo book, posing on the beach with the snow-covered peak of Snæfellsjökull in the back.
After we had collected enough photo material, we made our way back to Búðardalur.
The first day in the west we conclude satisfied and relaxed with many new impressions, and...
...how could it be otherwise as with a sunset.
