Before it went today in the capital Reykjavik, we packed the suitcases and sprucing up the vacation home.
Thus, on the day of departure we only had to do the most necessary things and could therefore leave early.

However, before we have meet our friends in Reykjavik, our first destination was Thingvellir National Park with the Öxarárfoss waterfall.
Here is also the continental divide between North America and Eurasia and the Icelanders convened here the second oldest parliament in the world, that Alþing.

At the Alþing we have been there before. Actually we only wanted to visit to the Öxarárfoss, because at our wedding 5 years ago, we did not have the best weather.
Today was a sunny late summer day and we exchanged the wedding clothes for a casual leisure look.
After we were at the waterfall, we took another short walk through the rock formations.
Before we arrived in Reykjavik, we stopped for a few photos at the cave people of Iceland (Laugarvatnshellar).
Not only impressive how people lived in this rock dwelling back in the nowhere, but also the surrounding landscape with its rocks is worth seeing.
Then we finally headed for Reykjavik and the bookshop in the industrial estate.
Bookstore? Yes, if we are already finally again on Iceland, we bought naturally two photo books, which our friend Jon arranged.
That also one of my pictures was printed, may have been also an additional motive, whereby I did not know it before whether one of the photos made it into the selection for the book.
We still had enough time until our meeting in the mall late in the afternoon. We used the time to treat ourselves to the most delicious cinnamon buns from the most colorful bakery - that we know.
When we talked about what else to do in Reykjavik during the last weeks, this was always the most important point. If you haven't been there yourself, it's hard to discribe. The scent, which rises from afar in the nose and then the first bite into the still warm cinnamon buns ...
For us an absolute must!

After we enjoyed the cinnamon buns at the Hallgrímskirkja and the monument to Leifur Eiríksson, we strolled a bit through the alleys and stores.
What you don't expect in a souvenir store, a cat that is lazing on a blanket and of course is stroked by everyone - including us. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take it with us.
In the late afternoon we met Jon, who had photographed us in 2017 at our wedding and with him we have a friendship since then and it was great to finally meet him again.
Stephane from Belgium was also at the meeting. With him, we share the fascination for Iceland for years, but had not yet the opportunity to meet in person - what could be better than to catch up on Iceland?

Since Belgium is not a world trip for us, we will surely see each other again.
A friend of Stephane was responsible for the group photo, which also excuses the rather unfortunate attempt, when four passionate amateur photographers have to be in front of the lens - relaxed is different.

With three short stops on the way back, our time in the south slowly came to an end.
Back we drove over the 435, to see the Thingvellir this time from the other side, unfortunately a beautiful photo motive did not result.
At the church at Mosfell Yarn Farm we had to refresh our memories from 2015, as the nameless church was one of the first we photographed back then.
To our astonishment', even in the early evening hours, the crater lake Kerið was overcrowded, so without further ado we chose a nameless crater very close by on Google Maps for some drone shots - to end the day and the south.
